Financial services deal the priority for Hammond

Chancellor Philip Hammond said that reaching a Brexit deal on financial services was his “most immediate priority”

Hammond said that the UK had an “opportunity to seek a bespoke partnership in financial services that will enable the ongoing delivery of cross-border financial services in both directions.”

This will protect financial stability and maintain fair competition, he said during his speech at the Confederation of British Industry annual dinner last night.

“It is in the interests of both the UK and the EU to secure a mutually beneficial deal that will allow us to continue to have a close economic partnership,” Hammond said, adding that such a “mutually beneficial deal” will provide the certainty business desires.
